Today's
text from the ESV Study Bible: Psalms 26, 40, 68, 61-62, & 64.
What is the end purpose of man? Who is the captain of your soul? Why did God create man? Do you believe that God created man?
As you understand who King David was, and read his Psalms, we find a man with a strong desire to have a right heart towards God.
He was the most powerful man on the planet in his day, yet he pens this:
For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,for my hope is from him.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
On God rests my salvation and my glory;
my mighty rock, my refuge is God.
The atheist William Ernest Henley, in his famous poem, "Invictus" got it wrong. We are not the captains of our souls.
We were created to bring glory to God.
Can you wrap your mind around that? Can you feel the fight in your soul with those words?
