Today's text from the ESV Study Bible: 1 Chronicles 7-10.
In today's reading, we went through hundreds of names in the genealogy of Israel and her various tribes.
I was, by the way, very impressed with the orators ability to pronounce all these names. I was attempting to pronounce them as I was listening and failed horribly.
As the Chronicler continued to build his case for the reestablishment of the kingdom, he ended today's reading with this statement about King Saul:
"So Saul died for his breach of faith. He broke faith with the Lord in that he did not keep the command of the Lord, and also consulted a medium, seeking guidance. 14 He did not seek guidance from the Lord. Therefore the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse." (1 Chronicles 10:13-14)
I must confess, this isn't an epitaph I would want left to my memory.
Which makes me think, what will people say of me 500 years from now, should the Lord tarry? Better yet, what will the Lord say of my life?
Something to consider, isn't it?
