Today's text from the ESV Study Bible: Genesis 35-37.
Before we begin, let me first apologize for not getting this posted yesterday. I will make no excuses except that a boat load of life happened yesterday.
We have now come to a most interesting series of events in our year-long Biblical journey. We are going to see God, once again, mysteriously use a whole string of evil events to bring about his purposes.
Further, it seems that God is going take us on a side-track away from the line of Messiah (Judah), and serve his purposes through Judah's brother Joseph.
Further still, I find it interesting that Jacob (Israel) has seen what goes around (his deception with his father) now come around with this deception of his sons with him. I'm not trying to make anything of that, just an interesting observation.
For some reason, God has chosen to take one of his chosen, and plant him as a slave to Potiphar in Egypt.
As we read the life of Joseph, we must remember to keep in mind the larger view. God is revealing himself through this narrative, and desires that we see his sovereignty, and his ability to work his way. This is demonstrated even through the evil of fallen man, and the schemes of that dog on leash Satan.
