I am currently 5 days into Princeton University's year long reading of John Calvin's, "Institutes of the Christian Religion".
I thought, before we get too far into this text, that I would put forward one more pitch to you, my readers, to dedicate yourself to this year long journey.
Reason #1 - Ligon Duncan proclaims that this is the most important book written in the last 500 years!
Reason #2 - Because I am, and it will give us something to talk about all year.
Reason #3 - It will likely deepen your faith, and further your understanding of God's word.
Reason #4 - Here is Calvin explaining why he wrote the Institutes: " Moreover, it has been my purpose in this labor to prepare and instruct
candidates in sacred theology for the reading of the divine Word, in
order that they may be able both to have easy access to it and to
advance in it without stumbling. For I believe I have so embraced the
sum of religion in all its parts, and have arranged it in such an
order, that if anyone rightly grasps it, it will not be difficult for
him to determine what he ought especially to seek in Scripture, and to
what end he ought to relate its contents."
Reason #5 - this is only a 15 minute commitment, six days a week. Certainly you have 15 minutes each day to deepen your relationship with God. Wow! That was thick, wasn't it??
If you join the study, make sure to let me know so that we can discuss the various topics.
