"The Second Day of the Creation" c1925, by M.C. Escher.
John 1:1-4 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life..."
There are only two options: Life made matter, or matter made life.
Both, it seems to me, require faith, as neither position is empirically provable.
Placing your faith, in Life, is ultimately beautiful as that Life gives new life which the natural man is wholly destitute of.
From Jonathan Edwards:
"It is evident that there is such a thing as a spiritual belief or conviction of the truth of the things of the gospel, or a belief that is peculiar to those who are spiritual, or who are regenerated, and have the Spirit of God, in his holy communications, and dwelling in them as a vital principle. So that the conviction they have, does not only differ from that which natural men have, in its concomitants, in that it is accompanied with good works, but the belief itself is diverse, the assent and conviction of the judgment is of a kind peculiar to those who are spiritual, and that which natural men are wholly destitute of."
Belief in Life connects you with the Creator, and that belief brings relationship with our Creator, and in turn He brings a spiritual belief that is completely unknown and hidden from those who place their faith in matter.
Further still, this Life, this Creator, Holy God calls us all to believe in Life:
Revelation 3:20 - "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me".
Don't ignore this call. Through faith, respond to Jesus Christ. Then you too, will have the assurance of a spiritual belief granted by, and through, the Holy Spirit. Without which, you will never know for certain!
